I can confidently say that nothing beats Melbourne when it comes to brunch. I have just relocated back here from living abroad in London for nearly 2 years, and 1 of the things I missed the most was amazing innovative and photogenic brunch as well as amazing coffee. There are so many new cafes and restaurants to check out, I feel like I have to start exploring the city I grew up in, not that I am complaining.
The perfect weekend for me in Melbourne involves a brunch... or two. For the past long weekend I had the chance to visit Gabriel Fitzroy on Gertrude Street. Seeing it has a high rating on Zomato and mouthwatering pictures on Instagram, I was excited to check them out. I love their mixture of twists on some of the dishes which involved some inspiration from the Mediterranean and Mexican flavours. Camille took care of us so well and I followed her personal favourite recommendation, which was the "panko crumbed eggplant with hummus, capsicum, tomato, olives, pine nuts, pomegranate and rocket". That instantly also became my favourite dish and even a friend of mine who is usually purely carnivorous. The dish was flavoursome, the eggplant was perfectly crispy yet soft and moist, and the hummus made it quite filling.
We also ordered the "crisp saganaki, poached eggs, smoked salmon, avocado, kasundi, dukkah, lemon and rocket". This was the first time I was exposed to Kasundi, which is a Bengali version of mustard, and I loved it. It was perfectly tasty and smokey, perfect with condiment for the poached eggs and salmon.
As much as I love trying new things, I enjoy basic brunch essentials such as the chorizo in the baked eggs and soft corn tortilla.

Gabriel Fitzroy has high ratings on Zomato for obvious reasons, good variety on the menu as well as tasty and photogenic dishes. The team was also very efficient even though the cafe was very busy. I would definitely love to come back here one day and recommend it to you guys!
